Several TDSs in Mississippi
There are three supercell thunderstorms in eastern Mississippi that have a history of producing tornadoes at this hour. They will all begin affecting West Alabama between 6:30 and 7:00PM.
…SW OF MACON MS
A confirmed tornado was reported near Preston in Noxubee County. The NWS Jackson has a CONSIDERABLE tornado damage tag associated with this one. This tornado will pass near or between Macon and Brooksville. It will enter western Pickens County between Pickensville and Macedonia between 630-645 p.m. Be in a safe place soon in Pickens County.
…APPROACHING COLUMBUS
A radar confirmed tornado passed about 10 miles southeast of Starkville tonight. The storm, which is approaching COlumbus, has weakened and the tornado warning has been dropped. It will pass into Lamar County near Baxter, Starr and Molloy and head toward Vernon. Be in a safe place in Lamar County as well and monitor this storm carefully.
…APPROACHING ABERDEEN MS
Another dangerous storm is some 14 miles WSW of Aberdeen. It will be into northern Lamar County near Detroit and Sulligent before 7 p.m.
Damage reports are starting to come in from Mississippi. Trees were blown down in the Leesburg area near 4 PM. Trees and power lines were blown down by a tornado near Branch and near Forkville. A house received some major damage in Grenada by suspected thunderstorm winds, along with trees blown down. More trees were reported down due to thunderstorm winds in Pittsboro and Houlka.
Along with the damage reports, we also have reports of high rainfall totals: A report of 2 inches of rainfall has fallen so far in Kilmichael.
Good News: The Winfield NOAA Weather Radio transmitter, broadcasting on a
frequency of 162.525 MHz, is back on the air.
