Alabama Weather Update 11:15 a.m.

…Major outbreak of severe weather including tornadoes across Alabama and much of the Deep South today…
Conditions continue to evolve for a significant outbreak of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes today.

Moisture levels continue to rise, and despite fairly heavy cloud cover, CAPE values are already in the 1500 j/kg range as far north as Sumter County, with 500 j/kg values all the way into Lamar County. These numbers will continue to rise as we head into the afternoon.

WARNINGS RECAP
Severe thunderstorm warning for western Colbert until 11:30 a.m. Tornado crossing border now from Mississippi.

Tornado warning for Lauderdale County until 11:30 a.m. Possible tornado near Cherokee.

Other tornado warnings are in effect for SE Alabama, including Coffee County.

CURRENT RADAR
There are the aforementioned storms over NW Alabama/NE Mississippi.

Additional strong storms are developing over NW Mississippi as well as SW and Central Mississippi.

Showers are moving NE over Central Alabama from Perry County north to Shelby County over to Tallapoosa County and back down to Montgomery. A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect for Montgomery County earlier.

More strong storms are over SE Alabama.

A PDS (Particularly Dangerous Situation) tornado watch remains in effect until for the western half of Alabama until 6 p.m. and the eastern half until 8 p.m.
