An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

NICE: Grayling, Michigan is reporting 32 degrees right now; we have a very chilly airmass over the Great Lakes and the Midwest, with 40s down into southern parts of Illinois and Indiana. Unfortunately, the leading edge of that air has come to a dead halt around Nashville, so we will stay muggy and warm for a while.

THE ALABAMA STORY: Not much change in our forecast through the weekend. Scattered to numerous showers and storms today and tomorrow, mostly during the afternoon and evening hours, with highs in the mid 80s. The showers thin out a bit on Friday, and the weekend looks mostly rain-free, with any showers being rather isolated. Looks like we will be close to 90 on Saturday and Sunday, with low 90s possible in spots. Won’t exactly feel like fall. I don’t think rain will be a big issue for high school football games Friday night, or college games in our state on Saturday.

NEXT WEEK: It continues to look like the moisture from Ike will stay well to the west and north of Alabama, and it curves up and over an upper air ridge over the Deep South. Check out the Weather Xtreme video; the heaviest rain for the next five days is over Tulsa, Oklahoma; the QPF shows one foot of rain there!

SPEAKING OF IKE: Not much change; the NHC track brings Ike into the Texas coast, just below Matagorda Bay, during the pre-dawn hours Saturday as a category three hurricane. But, everyone from Galveston to Brownsville will continue to need to monitor this big storm closely in coming days. Ike will turn north through Texas, with potential for heavy rain and flooding through Texas and Oklahoma over the weekend. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

OTHER TROPICAL NEWS: Not much happening, and it sure looks like our MJO pulse is over. Looks like the Atlantic basin will be quiet for a few weeks once we get Ike inland.

VOODOO LAND: Still no sign of the upper ridge breaking down across the Deep South through late September in the latest GFS runs… still waiting for signs of that first good cold front of the fall season. Lots of cold air available up in Canada and points north.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

TWITTER: Don’t forget, you can follow our news and weather updates from ABC 33/40 on Twitter here. And, my personal Twitter feed is here if you want to keep up with my adventures in life. Twitter is a short messaging service you can receive via the web, cell phone, or IM.

I will be speaking in Hoover this morning at mid-morning… I will be back in the office by early afternoon, and the next Weather Xtreme video will be posted by 3:30 this afternoon. Enjoy the day!
