Ike’s Top Winds Still 110 mph

The 4 a.m. advisory pegs Ike near Baytown, Texas. Movement is NW-13 mph. It is expected to begin gradually turning to the north today.

Here is the predicted track…

Top winds are 110 mph. Ike should remain a hurricane much of today and it travels up into Northeast Texas.

No reports from Hobby any more. All the reporting stations that are in the northern or western eywall have stopped reporting. That is what makes it so difficult to get official wind readings in a hurricane.

At George Bush Intercontinental…winds are N at 53 gusting to 68 mph. A peak wind of 73 mph was reported in the last hour.

Windows are reportedly being blown out of downtown buildings in Houston.

Flooding in Galveston is severe. I am afraid there will be fatalities later this morning.
