An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

Pretty cold out there this morning… Anniston has dropped to 23 degrees at 5:00 a.m., and most other spots are in the 20s as well. But, the good news is that the dry air will heat very nicely today, and we should be close to 60 degrees in most communities by mid-afternoon with a sunny sky.

The weather all week will be very calm for early March. At this point I really don’t see any significant chance of rain through Saturday, although scattered clouds will show up from time to time. We will warm to near 70 degrees on Wednesday, but a push of cooler air will drop highs back into the low to mid 60s on Thursday and Friday.

NEXT RAIN EVENT: A fairly decent upper trough will bring the next chance of rain and thunderstorms to Alabama late Sunday afternoon or Sunday night. This system does not nearly as strong as the last two or three that have moved through here, but it might bring some chance of a strong thunderstorm or two to the state. Drier air will follow the system on Monday of next week.

LONG RANGE: The medium range guidance still looks very benign through mid-month. In fact, the GFS continues to build an upper ridge across the Deep South, which pushes the primary storm track northward, toward the Canadian border. This would suggest warmer and drier than normal in the March 12-19 time frame.

ENTERPRISE: I encourage you to read my op-ed piece about the tragedy at the high school on the blog (I posted it last night). I will be posting some pictures shortly that will back up my opinion… but as always we love to hear from you on the subject.

DAMAGE PICTURES: See images from the Adamsville tornado here, and the Wilcox County tornado here. They were posted on the blog last Friday.

WEATHER PARTY: Get all the latest weather news over on our sister site, WeatherParty.com. Be sure and register while you are there; you can submit stories and vote on them to determine what is published on the front page. Needless to say, the site is full of news this morning.

We are getting back to a normal schedule this week; I have been out of town for the last three days at a meeting; it was great being away but good to be back in the saddle. I am still backed up big time on e-mail and pictures; I will work on getting more images posted here today! I will have the next Weather Xtreme video on the server by 3:30 this afternoon…
