MORE NICE WEATHER: Temperatures are hovering in the low 70s in many Alabama communities this afternoon with a good supply of sunshine. If you like this weather, then you will like the forecast for the next two days as our weather will remain dry and mild. Afternoon temperatures should peak somewhere between 67 and 70 tomorrow and Friday with a decent amount of sunshine getting through high clouds that will float by from time to time.

THE WEEKEND: No real change in our thinking for the weekend. A few widely scattered showers might show up Saturday afternoon or Saturday night, but rainfall amounts should remain light and spotty with little upper air support and limited low level moisture. Highs for the weekend will hold in the 68 to 72 degree range. Most of the weekend should be dry.

NEXT WEEK: A strong upper low forms over Texas, and moves in our general direction. The latest GFS in the house (the 12Z run) moves the upper low to a point just south of Mobile Tuesday, which is a little faster than previous runs. Looks like we will need to continue to mention a chance of showers or storms Tuesday and Wednesday with this feature. The rain might even move into the southwest part of the state by Monday afternoon and Monday night. Severe weather doesn’t look especially likely with this setup, but very cold air aloft associated with the upper low could mean some issues with hail in the stronger storms.

LONG RANGE: The pattern continues to favor above normal temperatures and below normal rainfall in the March 15-25 time frame; I am sure the kids getting ready for spring break won’t mind that. We will have a few showery periods from time to time, but no major storm threat shows up on the 12Z GFS through 16 days. The Great Lakes and the northeast part of the U.S. still look very cold, however… these people are probably beginning to think they will never see a warm day again!
