The fine Fall weather just keeps rolling along, but there are some signs that a bit of rain could be coming our weather.

In the near term, high pressure at the surface will keep our weather dry and warm as the upper level pattern shifts with a ridge gradually building across the Southeast for the next several days. This should keep Central Alabama in the middle 80s for highs with mornings still cool but a tad warmer than recent days with lows generally in the mid and upper 50s.

A strong trough over the western US develops over the next day or so, but it will be slow to come our way. It would seem now that the GFS is suggesting rain chances improving during the latter part of Wednesday with the main rain threat coming during Thursday. By late Thursday the rain chances will be dropping off quickly as the system weakens and moves eastward.

Monday we’ll also be watching a weak easterly wave that shows up over Southeast Georgia, but I think the ridge will keep it displaced south of Central Alabama.

Once the Thursday system passes, a new trough drops into the western US Friday, but we will be dry and relatively mild so high school football should have another great event.

That second trough promises to bring a strong cold front with a good shot of colder air to the Southeast US by a week from Sunday. That’s getting into voodoo country, so we’ll be watching how later model runs handle the development of the next system.

Spent a little time on the Warrior River yesterday with Dr. Tim Coleman. The weather was magnificent. The morning mist on the river was quite intriguing with some “fog devils” that got has high as about 10 feet. Be sure to enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend. I should have the next Weather Xtreme Video posted by 8 am or so tomorrow morning. Godspeed.
