National Weather Podcast Month Rolls On

| March 14, 2017 @ 5:46 am

Fourteen years ago, we wanted to do a weather talk show, but it was just too difficult to set up an arrangement with a local station, buy the time, sell the ads and drive to produce a broadcast each week.

Then podcasting happened. Podcasts are just online talk shows.

We designed the WeatherBrains podcast for the person who is interested in weather. For nearly a decade, we could say we were the best weather podcast, because we were the ONLY weather podcast.

But podcasting has gone mainstream! People consume online media avidly, and podcasts are no exception. According to Edison Research, an estimated 35 million Americans already listen to podcasts weekly.

If you aren’t listening to WeatherBrains, you should be! We record on Monday nights at 8:30 p.m. CT. Spann is the host and Brian Peters and I participate along with other meteorologists around the country. Each week, we have some of the smartest people in the weather enterprise on the show. That’s where the ‘Brains come in! You can watch line at live.BigBrainsMedia.com or on the James Spann 24×7 Weather Channel on cable. Or you can download the audio podcast via iTunes or Sticher. Or you can listen to the show after the fact at www.WeatherBrains.com. The video is available on the WeatherBrains YouTube channel.

But since you love weather, do you know about the array of weather-related podcasts (online audio talk shows)? This March would be a great time to sample some other great weather podcasts. Toward that end, we are working with the producers of seven other weather-related podcasts and have National Weather Podcast Month (NWPM). Throughout March, we’ll work to raise awareness of podcasts for people — like you — who are interested in weather.

Here’s a link to a website that lists all eight NWPM podcasts and the people behind them. We will be appearing on their podcasts next month and they will be appearing on ours as well!

We have all planned a special group of blockbuster episodes. We have already hosted Dr. Russ Schneider from the SPC and Phil Klotzbach, one of the leading hurricane researchers around. Dr. Chuck Doswell is next week and Jim Cantore will hlep us finish out the month!

Here’s a schedule of all their March episodes.
