A Long Dry Spell Ahead

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

Funny to write that headline in March, which is typically our wettest month of the year. No real change in the 12Z model runs; the main feature in coming days will be a developing upper level low over the Southwest U.S. This thing will be in no hurry to move, and the bulk of the rain and storms with the system will remain well to the west of Alabama through the weekend. The warming trend will continues with highs well up in the 70s, and early morning lows mostly in the 50s. We will see scattered clouds from time to time, but each day should feature a decent amount of sunshine.

WEEKEND PEEK: The weekend ahead looks dry and mild, with highs in the 75 to 79 degree range, partly sunny days and fair nights.

AT THE BEACH: Pretty much the same story; no rain through the coming weekend with highs along the immediate coast close to 70 (cooler there because of the cooler ocean; sea surface temperatures are generally in the mid to upper 60s now along the central Gulf coast). Just a few miles inland, temperatures will peak in the 75 to 80 degree range.

NEXT RAIN: The system over the Southwest U.S. will lift northward and weaken early next week; it might bring showers to parts of Alabama a week from today (Monday March 26), but for now it sure doesn’t look like a big rain event. The 12Z GFS really doesn’t show another good rain setup here until around the first of April, and as we all know, that is in VOODOO land.

I sure enjoyed seeing the 3rd graders today at Helena Intermediate School… be watching for them on the KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News. I will have the next Weather Xtreme video ready by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow…
