Rain and a Little Thunder Moving Across Central Alabama

| March 11, 2017 @ 8:32 pm

The expected band of moderate rain did indeed set up across Central Alabama tonight, a little south of the I-20 corridor. The band is about 40 miles wide and oriented west to end. With the precipitation moving from west to east, some decent rainfall amounts are falling.

There is even a little lightning in Hale County, south of Eutaw.

Additional precipitation is over southern Tennessee, northern Mississippi and North Alabama. It will merge into the rain area and everything should begin pushing southeastward later tonight.

The rain will change to light snow over the Tennessee Valley of North Alabama later tonight. One half inch could fall across the northern counties, like Lauderdale, Limestone and Madison with up to an inch across the higher elevations of Jackson and Cherokee Counties. Northwest and North counties Marion, Winston and Cullman could see a brief changeover to light snow but no accumulation problems are expected.

The rain shoudl end in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa by 5 a.m. CDT. Notice I said Central DAYLIGHT time. Tonight we spring forward into Daylight Saving Time. So move your clocks ahead one hour before retiring tonight.
