A Very Dry Spring Pattern

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

DRY DAYS: No real change in our thinking since the morning update. We are still expecting dry and warm weather for Alabama through Monday of next week, with daily highs in the 78 to 83 degree range, and lows mostly in the 50s. We will see a few scattered high clouds from time to time, but each day should feature a good supply of sunshine.

To the west, a major upper low will drop southward during the next 24 hours, and will be in no hurry to go anywhere. This will bring unsettled weather conditions to the Southwest U.S., Texas, and the Southern Plains in coming days, but the deep system will pump up an upper ridge over Alabama which will keep us warm and dry.

NEXT WEEK: Our system over the southwest part of the nation will weaken and finally lift to the northeast early next week, and will bring the chance of showers to Alabama by Monday night or Tuesday. But, I just am not convinced we see much rain at all due to weakening dynamics, limited moisture, and the persistent upper ridge. Quite frankly, much of next week looks dry as well with temperatures remaining above normal.

VOODOO LAND: The 12Z GFS continues to suggest that April will become more active, with a zonal flow across the southern part of the U.S. and occasional periods of rain or storms. We sure could use that rain, but remember, anything specific beyond seven days is pure voodoo. But, you can recognize patterns and trends, and I think there is no doubt the trend will be toward wetter weather as we get into April.

PRIME TIME: Be watching for the TV version of Storm Alert 2007 this Sunday evening from 6:00 until 7:00 on ABC 33/40… if you missed our annual severe weather awareness tour across Alabama, then this is your chance to see most of the video elements that were included in the show.
