MORE COLD AIR FRIDAY: No real change in our thinking through the weekend. No rain, and a new surge of cold air blows in here on Friday. While we will reach the 50s tomorrow, the latest NAM shows a high of only 44 in Birmingham Friday, followed by a low of 23 Saturday morning. That model is probably close to being correct. This is a cold pattern.

The weekend stays dry with sunny and cool days Saturday and Sunday; we will warm to near 60 degrees by Sunday afternoon.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: This is where things get interesting… mainly toward the weekend after Thanksgiving. First off, we will mention a chance of showers Monday afternoon and Monday night with a passing front, but limited moisture means rain totals will be generally a quarter-inch or less. Not a big event.

For the big travel day, the day before Thanksgiving, the weather looks relatively calm across much of the nation with no major storm systems or airport problems related to weather. Here in Alabama, the day should be cool and dry. Thanksgiving day also looks dry and pleasant.

Moisture returns by the end of the week, and some rain could fall at times Friday through Sunday with temperatures back to normal levels, maybe even pushing 70 at times with a southerly flow. The GFS continues to develop a major storm system that rolls through here in the November 30/December 1 time frame; the 12Z run hints at heavy rain or severe storms, followed by a big time blast of cold air complete with snow flurries. This, of course, is all voodoo, but there has been some good consistency and we could very well have major weather related travel issues at the end of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for a day by day walk-through of the GFS output.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

TWITTER: Don’t forget, you can follow our news and weather updates from ABC 33/40 on Twitter here. And, my personal Twitter feed is here if you want to keep up with my adventures in life. Twitter is a short messaging service you can receive via the web, cell phone, or IM.

Wow… I was a “Dancing With The Stars” judge on Talk of Alabama this morning… I gave everybody a good score since I know absolutely nothing about it, but it was great fun. I was very impressed with the dancers, including our own Tracy Haynes and Nicole Allshouse. See some video of the show here. I also had a great time today at Greystone Elementary for “Lunch With Mr. James”. Too bad I missed their Thanksgiving feast, which is tomorrow.

I am headed out shortly for live weather at 5:00 and 6:00 from the new Bass Pro Shop in Leeds… the next Weather Xtreme video will be posted here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow!
