A large area of precipitation is moving across North Central Alabama tonight…

The precipitation covers parts of Lamar… Pickens… Fayette… Walker… Tuscaloosa… southern Winston and western Jefferson Counties. It is expanding as it spreads east. It will affect areas from Cullman through Birmingham down into Bibb and Shelby Counties over the next hour.

Our skywatchers report sleet and snow mixed in Northport and Coker. Snow flurries just reported in Brookwood.

The activity is being caused by increased lift associated with an upper disturbance swinging around the upper low that is located near Chicago tonight.

The showers moving through East Alabama are associated with some strong gusty winds. Winds of 25-35 mph are accompanying the showers that are moving through Calhoun, Talladega, Clay and Tallapoosa Counties. They will affect Cleburne, Randolph and Chambers Counties over the next hour.

Temperatures are now dropping throuhg the lower 40s, with a few upper 30s around.
