HEADS UP: Tornadic Storms May Reach West Alabama By 10:30 a.m. Be Ready!!

| April 30, 2017 @ 8:39 am

A very active day is setting up for Alabama today as a line of severe storms will be pushing into Alabama around noon and pushing across the state during the afternoon. Damaging winds and tornadoes are possible across Alabama.

Numerous severe thunderstorms, many producing tornadoes and potential tornadoes are spreading across the Mississippi Delta of western Mississippi at this hour back into southeastern Louisiana. By my count, there are six tornado warnings in effect right now across Mississippi and Louisiana, including one confirmed tornado producing considerable damage south of Bolton. This tornado will move through the northern parts of Jackson in the next hour.

The storms are moving faster and will be into West Alabama sooner than anticipated. It looks like the storms could reach West Alabama by 10:30 or 11 a.m.

A couple of additional rounds of storms are possible overnight as this system may produce two or three waves of storms.

The greatest tornado threat will be across Southwest and West Central Alabama including parts of Sumter, Greene, Hale, Marengo, Choctaw, Clarke, Washington, Mobile, Baldwin Monroe and Wilcox into Perry and Dallas. In these areas, the SPC has an Enhanced severe weather risk for today. The rest of the western two thirds of Alabama is included in their standard Slight Risk category.

A tornado watch was just issued for much of Mississippi until 3 p.m. CDT.

A wind advisory is in effect for nearly all of Alabama today. Winds will be sustained at 15-25 mph with gusts to 35-40 mph.

Heavy rain will be possible as well with high moisture content air in place across Alabama. 2-3 inches of rain is possible today and tonight.
