A Quick Check On Our Weather Situation At 10:00AM
Currently across Central Alabama, most of the area has a mix of sun and clouds, with the western parts of the area experiencing some showers and storms. There is a broken line of storms stretching from the Alabama/Tennessee state line back to the south-southwest through eastern Mississippi and down into southeastern Louisiana.
Storms have pushed into the western portions of the state at this moment, with the heaviest of those located in Pickens County, especially over the communities of Pickensville, Memphis, and over to Reform. Another decent heavy shower is falling over the northern part of Tuscaloosa County, but haven’t seen any lightning with it as of yet. This mass of showers and storms is currently pushing off to the east at just over 30 MPH. Just want to give a quick heads up to Gordo, Carrollton, McMullen and Aliceville as a hefty thunderstorm is approaching your locations.
We’ve noticed that the Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the southwestern parts of Central Alabama to a SLIGHT RISK for severe storms through tonight. So far, no watches or warnings have been issued for Central Alabama, and the main threat of stronger to severe storms still appear to be during the afternoon and evening hours. More storms are expected to develop across the area later today as an upper trough approaches. The main threat from these storms will be strong, gusty winds and some small hail, but the wind fields will be light and there is no significant tornado threat. Timing for the strong to marginally severe storms will be from noon today until midnight tonight.
