A Quick Check On Our Weather Situation At 2PM

| May 12, 2017 @ 1:56 pm

We have a few strong thunderstorms in progress across Central Alabama at the 2PM hour. The strongest at this point is located near Piedmont in Northeastern Calhoun County and will move into Northern Cleburne County shortly. Some gusty winds and small hail can be expected with this cell, along with dangerous lightning and heavy rainfall.

Another strong storm is moving across St.Clair County currently, with heavy rainfall and dangerous lightning. This storm will be in Pell City and Lincoln shortly. These are pushing slowly off to the east.

SPC is still holding with much of the area under a Marginal Risk for severe storms throughout the rest of the day and into the night, with the southwestern parts of the area in a Slight Risk. More storms are expected to develop across the area later today as an upper trough approaches. The main threat from these storms will be strong, gusty winds and some small hail, but the wind fields still appear to be light, and there is no significant tornado threat. Timing for the strong to marginally severe storms will be from now until midnight tonight.
