All Aboard!
7:09 a.m. That long single whistle from the front of the train means it’s time to go for an ontime depature for AMTRAK Train Number 20, The Crescent. Two short whistles, and you feel the fifteen car consist lurch forward and slowly start to roll out of New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal, headed for New York.
Fifteen cars you say? That seems longer than normal. Yes. There are seven old coaches from the State of Connecticut rolling north at the back of the train. Four regular AMTRAK coaches, a dinette, dining cars and two sleepers make up the main part of the train. Two Genesis engines are pulling the train.
I am headed home to Birmingham after a week working in southern Mississippi. A week that saw snow in places that don’t see snow very often. Certainly not that much snow.
More updates as the train rolls along through the day.
