Strong Storms Affecting Lee, Elmore, Macon, Tallapoosa, & Chambers Counties

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER ADVISORY FOR NORTHWESTERN LEE…NORTHEASTERN ELMORE…NORTHEASTERN MACON…TALLAPOOSA AND SOUTHWESTERN CHAMBERS COUNTIES UNTIL 1:15 PM CDT

At 12:43 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Eclectic to near Martin Lake At Kowaliga to near Still Waters Resort to Auburn University. Movement was northeast at 35 mph. Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include…
Auburn, Opelika, Alexander City, Dadeville, Camp Hill, Notasulga, Eclectic, Jacksons’ Gap, Waverly, Cusseta, Martin Dam, Auburn University, Tuskegee National Forest, Sturkie, Ridge Grove, Jacksons Gap, Hillabee Creek, Liberty City, Martin Lake At Kowaliga and Oak Bowery.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
