Warm And Very Humid At Midday Across Central Alabama

Currently at the 11 o’clock hour across Central Alabama, we have mostly cloudy conditions across the southern half of the area, with a few showers showing up, especially over portions of Dallas, Lowndes, Autauga, Elmore, and Montgomery counties, with more lighter activity over parts of Chambers and Lee counties. Another moderate to heavy shower is affecting parts of Pike, Bullock, and Barbour counties. At this point, these are just rainmakers and I’m not seeing any lightning being produced with these. All are moving off to the east-northeast around 25-30 MPH.

Across the southeastern states, we have numerous showers and storms over the southern parts of Mississippi stretching across South Alabama, with more action down along the Mississippi and Louisiana coastline and just off over the Gulf of Mexico. There are lighter showers over west and central parts of Georgia and down over parts of the Florida Panhandle. No severe watches or warnings are in effect at this time.

TEMPERATURES THROUGHOUT CENTRAL ALABAMA AT 11:00AM
It’s a warm and muggy day out there already, with current temperatures ranging from the mid 70s up north to the lower 80s to the south. Eufaula is the warm spot at 81 degrees, with Prattville as the cool spot underneath a decent shower at 69 degrees.

FOR THE REST OF TODAY
Skies for the afternoon through the early evening hours will mainly mostly cloudy across the area, but we will have a few breaks to allow the sun through at times. We’ll have a risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms, with the better chances the farther south in the area you are. Afternoon highs will be in the lower to mid 80s throughout the area. For the evening and through the overnight hours, skies will become partly cloudy for the northern counties in the area, with mostly cloudy skies and a small risk of lingering showers and thunderstorms in the southern 2/3rds of the area. Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 60s.

THURSDAY’S WEATHER
This warm and muggy pattern continues across Central Alabama for tomorrow, with a risk of showers and thunderstorms mainly during the afternoon. Chances of rain will be greater the farther south you are in Central Alabama. Afternoon highs will be in the lower to mid 80s, with overnight lows in the 60s.

A LOOK AT THE TROPICS: STARTING A DAY EARLY
Even though the Atlantic Hurricane Season doesn’t start until tomorrow, I’m going to do one a day early as we have a tropical depression that has formed just to the south of the coast of Mexico in the eastern Pacific Ocean. It currently has maximum sustained winds at 30 MPH, and is moving ever so slowly to the northeast at 3 MPH. It is expected to strengthen to a tropical storm and would be named Beatriz, and just meander off of the coast through the morning on Sunday. Heavy rains from the depression could cause life-threatening floods and mudslides in the region. As far as the Atlantic Basin, all is quiet as of now.
