Numerous Showers Across Central Alabama At Midday

RADAR CHECK
It’s another mostly cloudy and very muggy day across Central Alabama at the noon hour, with plenty of spots receiving decent rainfall under these numerous scattered showers. Some are actually receiving too much rain at one time.

SOME LOCALIZED FLOODING
An Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory has been issued for Marion, Western Fayette, and Lamar counties until 1:45 PM CDT. At 11:40 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area. Over two inches of rain have already fallen based on radar estimates. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying spots. Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

TEMPERATURES AT 11:50AM
Looking across Central Alabama as we approach the noon hour, temperatures are running in the lower 70s to the mid 80s from north to south. Eufaula and Montgomery are tied as our warm spot at 84 degrees, with our cool spot being Haleyville with rain cooled air at 70 degrees.

REST OF TODAY
Much of the same for the rest of the afternoon and into the evening… Warm and very humid, with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across Central Alabama. Where it’s not raining, skies will be mainly cloudy, but a few breaks could allow a minute or two of sunshine to peak through. Afternoon highs will be in the lower to mid 80s, but I believe a few spots in the northwestern part of Central Alabama will stay in the 70s, thanks in part to continuous rainfall and deeper cloud cover. For this evening, the current shower and storm activity will start to diminish for the first part, before we have more development during the overnight hours. If it’s not raining at your location, skies will be mostly cloudy. Lows will be in the upper 60s to the lower 70s.

TUESDAY IS NOW LOOKING A LOT LIKE TODAY
We will have a cold front that will be approaching Central Alabama from the north, but we’ll still have occasional showers and thunderstorms across the area. It will not be a complete washout throughout the day, and when it’s not raining, skies will be mostly cloudy. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s to the lower 80s. The good news is that the cold front should push through the area tomorrow night, bringing in drier continental air. Rain will come to an end and skies will begin to clear out during the overnight hours. Lows will be in the upper 50s to the mid 60s.

A LOOK AT THE TROPICS
All remains quiet and no tropical storms are expected to form within the next 5 days in the Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico.

HEADING TO THE BEACH
From now through Tuesday, there will be more clouds than sun at the beaches of Alabama and the Florida Panhandle, with a good chance of showers and Thunderstorms each day. Highs in the lower to mid 80s, with lows in the 70s. Click here to see the AlabamaWx Beach Forecast Center page.
