Sorry for the headline!! Just couldn’t resist. What a gorgeous day on tap for Central Alabama after a chilly start. We should see temperatures reaching into the 60s today and it will be dry with a combination of dry air and sinking air with high pressure over the area.

A slight change occurs tonight with a cold front that should move briskly through Central Alabama. The main impact will be a drop in our afternoon temperatures – a drop of about 10 to 14 degrees with highs for New Year’s eve around 50.

But we recover quickly with clouds coming back Thursday late in the day. Rain should hold off until late Thursday and the first half of Friday. Clouds will linger, too, but the rapid move of weather systems should set the stage for a dry weekend, the first of 2009.

The next weather producing system will begin to impact us on Monday – maybe late Sunday, but I still think Sunday will be rain-free. The GFS is suggesting a strong low pressure storm system moving out of South Texas which could spell a bout of severe weather – probably along the Gulf coast, but it’s a little early to make a call for a specific area. It will be watched to see how it unfolds.

Voodoo country continues to show a change to colder weather across the eastern half of the country. The GFS does not appear to be as bullish on winter weather for the Southeast on this run, but we’re still talking about voodoo country. So we’ll see what comes about.

Don’t forget to listen to our weekly netcast anytime on the web or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
