Are You Ready For The Eclipse? Skies Are Fine To View As We Approach Midday

| August 21, 2017 @ 11:37 am

We have a few cumulus clouds forming out there across the the northern half of Central Alabama at this point, but we do not have any rain on radar. Conditions are still nearly perfect to view the eclipse as the action starts right around 12:00 PM and goes through to 2:58 PM. The eclipse maximum for Central Alabama will occur at 1:31 PM.

Temperatures will be hot out there during the event, in the lower 90s throughout Central Alabama, with 91 being the expected temperature at the 1 o’clock hour. Sky cover is still expected to be mostly clear and we should not have a problem watching the entirety of the event.

Eclipse Viewing Safety
Do not look at the sun with the naked eye or with regular or polarized sunglasses. Irreversible damage to your eyes will occur, even if it is just for a split-second. Only view the sun with specific eclipse glasses which include a special film to protect your eyes, or with welder’s glass that is shade 13 or higher.

Hot And Mainly Dry To Finish Out The Day
For the remainder of the day, we’ll have mostly clear skies for much of the area with a partly cloudy skies in the extreme southeastern parts of the area. Much of the area will remain dry through the daylight hours, but there is a small risk of isolated to scattered showers for the northwest corner of the area, and for the southeastern part mainly south of a line from Anniston to Clanton to Demopolis. Afternoon highs will top out in the lower to middle 90s. Skies will clear out for the late night and overnight hours, and lows will drop into the lower to middle 70s.

Tuesday’s Weather
We’ll start off with mostly clear skies in the morning, but clouds will be on the increase throughout the afternoon and evening hours. We’ll have a little better chance of scattered mainly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Unfortunately, it will continue to be hot and humid. Afternoon highs will top out in the lower to middle 90s. An approaching front may bring a few showers to the northern parts of Central Alabama for Tuesday night, mainly north of a line from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Gadsden. Lows should bottom out in the lower to middle 70s.
