Wow… I see Dr. Tim Coleman calling for an 8 degree low in Birmingham at some point in the Arctic blast… scroll down for this thoughts.

THE WEEKEND: Not much change in the overall thinking for the next seven days. We should see 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain tomorrow with a surface front passing through; no really heavy rain or severe weather this time with limited moisture and weak dynamics. Just keep in mind it should rain at times; looks like the best chance will come from about 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday will mostly sunny and cool with a high around 50.

NEXT WEEK: Guidance still hints the coldest air will be in here Wednesday through Friday; MOS will be too warm, and I have fear we might not get out of the 20s on one of those days, perhaps Thursday. And, the 12Z GFS is back on the freezing rain/snow bandwagon for Thursday afternoon and Thursday night. Don’t focus on run to run variance… we won’t even try to forecast any wintry precipitation until Monday. We should in pretty good shape to make a call by then. Confidence is very high in the coldest air of the season, and perhaps in several years, coming in here over the latter half of the week, and that is what you need to plan for now.

VOODOO LAND: The NAO flips positive toward the end of the month, and some moderation over the eastern U.S. is likely by the final week of the month. But, sure looks very very cold for the inauguration in Washington, D.C. on January 20.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
