Coldest Ever in Maine?

This interesting email from Rob Lightbrown, Caribou, Maine. He operates Crown Weather Services:

Good morning JB from the frozen tundra!!!
The state of Maine may have a new all-time record low temperature:

Big Black River, which is in far northwest Aroostook County recorded a temp of minus 49 at 7 am this morning. This breaks the old record of minus 48 set in Van Buren on January 19, 1925. By the way, my weather station here at the house recorded a low temp of minus 37, which is the coldest temperature I have ever experienced!!
