Snow Increasing Across the Area

| December 8, 2017 @ 5:24 am

Snow at Anniston from Melody Rae

Snow is increasing across the area early this morning.

All snow now reported from the observer at the Shelby County Airport.

Vestavia PD reporting snow accumulating on grass and cars in their area. (h/t John Talbot)

Reports of heavy snow in West Homewood.

Snow has changed over to all snow at Livingston with large flakes falling.

All snow now in Helena at 5:16.

There are lots of reports of snow accumulating in Mississippi.

Surface temperatures are hovering in the lower and middle 30s across the area with moisture moving in from the southwest ahead of a very deep trough.

A mix of rain and snow will continue through the morning hours into the early afternoon. Temperatures will slowly warm during the late morning, but may be offset by the dynamic cooling in areas where heavier precipitation is falling. And there still is cold air being transported into the area on northwesterly low-level winds.

Snow will mainly accumulate on grassy areas, cars and elevated surfaces, but may begin to stick on roadways, especially on bridges and overpasses. Travel could become hazardous as we go through the morning in spots.

Schools are delaying their openings waiting to see what happens.

If you can, stay put through the morning commute this morning and see what happens.

I will have the Weather Xtreme video by around 6:30.
