Rain and Warmer in the Week Ahead; Much Colder for Christmas

| December 17, 2017 @ 12:30 pm

A wave of showers is pushing eastward across Alabama, early this afternoon mainly in areas along and east of I-65.

It is being powered by a weakening upper-level disturbance that is passing to our north.

Rain will mostly end when it passes, although I think we can’t rule out a few showers through the afternoon and overnight hours.

Temperatures are in the 40s and will probably remain there through the afternoon. There is some slight clearing over West Central Alabama, but no one will see very much sun for sure through the afternoon.

Lows tonight will be in the lower and middle 40s. There will be a little patchy, dense fog.

Tomorrow looks like it will be a warmer and basically dry day with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Rain and some thunder are in the forecast for Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Rainfall amounts will be decent, ranging from around 1.5 inches over South Central Alabama to 2.5 inches over North Central Alabama to over 4 inches over North Alabama. Flash flooding could become a concern by midweek over North Alabama.

Another round of rain and storms will affect Alabama Friday before colder air arrives for Christmas.
