An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

BIG SPREAD: Another great example of how this is not a one number kind of place when it comes to forecasting lows on a clear, calm morning. Our Skywatcher in Broomtown, in Cherokee County, reports 15 degrees as I write this, while the Birmingham Airport is 21 degrees warmer with 36. Other spot reports include 24 in Anniston and 26 in Tuscaloosa.

WEEKEND WARMTH: Everything is still on track for a big weekend warm-up. No rain through Sunday; we will see a high around 60 today, followed by afternoon temperatures between 65 and 70 tomorrow and Sunday. Get outside and enjoy it!

NEXT WEEK: Our western storm system will come out in two phases; the lead wave will weaken and pass well to the north of Alabama. Still, we will mention a chance of widely scattered showers on Tuesday as deeper moisture moves in from the south. The main wave will mainly impact the state late Wednesday and Wednesday night. The 06Z GFS is not as aggressive with the strength of the system, but we have seen occasional hints that we could be dealing with strong to severe thunderstorms. We will keep a close eye on developments over the weekend.

Following the round of storms Wednesday night, the weather on Thursday and Friday should be dry and pleasant; no Arctic air involved with this one.

LONG RANGE: Out in voodoo land, the weather still looks very changeable for the latter half of the month. Expect everything from mild days to very cold days, stormy periods, and maybe a winter weather threat or two thrown into the mix just for fun.

STORM ALERT 2009: We sure enjoyed seeing the great crowd last night in Trussville; next week we come to Jasper. We will be at the CHS building Thursday evening; the show begins at 7:00; doors open at 5:00. That place is always packed when we come, so get there early for a good seat!

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

TWITTER: Don’t forget, you can follow our news and weather updates from ABC 33/40 on Twitter here. And, my personal Twitter feed is here if you want to keep up with my adventures in life. Twitter is a short messaging service you can receive via the web, cell phone, or IM.

Today I will up at Glencoe Middle School in Etowah County for a weather program… then on to the World of Wheels at the BJCC for live weather at 5:00 and 6:00 on ABC 33/40. I hope to crank out an afternoon edition of the Weather Xtreme video; if not I will write a discussion on how things look for next week based on the new model runs. Enjoy the day!
