Nearly All Clear But Still Bitterly Cold At Midday, But A Warm Up Is Coming

| January 4, 2018 @ 11:46 am

HOW’S THE WEATHER OUT THERE AT MIDDAY

Skies across the north and central parts of the beautiful state of Alabama as we approach the midday hour are mainly clear with the exception of a few high cirrus clouds floating over the southwestern and south-central locations.

Even with all of the sunshine out there, temperatures are struggling to warm up. At 11:09 AM, temperatures are ranging from 23ºF up in the Tennessee Valley to 38ºF in the extreme southern parts of Central Alabama. Birmingham was at 30ºF, while Tuscaloosa was at 32ºF, and Montgomery was at 36ºF.

NWS Birmingham continues a Hard Freeze Warning for all of their counties until 9:00 AM Friday, and has a Hard Freeze Watch to go in effect until 9:00 AM Saturday as soon as the warning expires.

The good news is that starting tomorrow, we will be on a warming trend and topping out in the 50s by next week. These images are the NWS model blend of high and low temperatures through the next 10 days for Huntsville, Birmingham, and Montgomery.

WEATHER FOR THE REST OF YOUR THURSDAY

It will be a beautiful but very cold day across North/Central Alabama for the remainder of the day and through the evening tonight. Skies will remain mainly clear, but winds out of the north at 10-20 MPH will make those wind chills hang around in the teens and 20s during the day. Afternoon highs will top out in the mid-20s in the north to the upper 30s to near 40ºF in the south. Another clear and bitter cold night with lows in the lower teens in the north to near 20ºF in the south.

BACK OUT OF THE DEEP FREEZE ON FRIDAY

Believe it or not, the warming trend begins tomorrow. Skies will be mostly sunny and highs will top out in the lower 30s in the north to the mid-40s in the south. A few places in the mountains up in the northeastern corner of the state may struggle to reach 30ºF, especially locations like Fort Payne and Mentone. Winds will mainly be out of the north at 3-10 MPH. For the evening and overnight hours, skies will be mostly clear and lows will be in the mid-teens in the north to the lower 20s in the south.
