Cold Today, Warmer By The Weekend: A Later-Than-Midday Look At The Weather

| January 18, 2018 @ 2:01 pm

WEATHER AROUND CENTRAL ALABAMA AT 1:55 PM
Skies are absolutely clear throughout Central Alabama at this time, allowing the maximum amount of sunshine to melt away any remaining snow and ice that may be out there. Temperatures at this time are running in the mid-30s in the north to the mid-40s in the south. Hopefully this sunshine and warmer temperatures will help melt all of the wintry stuff off of the roadways so we can get back to normal mode.

WEATHER FOR THE REST OF TODAY
We’ll continue to have sunny skies throughout the day and into the late night and overnight hours. Highs will top out in the upper 30s to the mid-40s from north to south, with lows in the upper teens to the lower 20s. Winds throughout the rest of the day will be nearly calm.

FRIDAY’S WEATHER
Friday will be an absolutely beautiful day across Central Alabama, with crystal clear skies and very light winds. Temperatures will be warmer as well, with highs reaching the lower 50s throughout the area. Friday night will be fair, with only a few clouds hiding some of the stars in the southern sky. Overnight lows will be in the upper 20s to the lower 30s.

THE CENTRAL ALABAMA WEEKEND
With us in a slight ridging pattern for this weekend, we’ll be able to enjoy much warmer temperatures with a mix of sun and clouds on both Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be in the mid-50s to the lower 60s on Saturday, and up into the lower to mid-60s on Sunday. Lows will be in the 30s on Saturday, and in the 40s on Sunday. We will stay dry throughout the weekend, but rain associated with our next system will move in before sunrise on Monday morning.

MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY
A cold front will be moving into Central Alabama on Monday bringing with it rain and a few thunderstorms, along with only slightly cooler air. There will be no surface based instability with this system, so severe weather is not expected. After that, mostly clear skies and seasonal temperatures can be expected on Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs on Monday will be in the upper 50s to the mid-60s, back down to the mid-50s to near 60 degrees for Tuesday and Wednesday.

ON THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY
1973 – A baby was carried 300 to 400 yards by the strong winds of a tornado at Corey LA, yet received only minor injuries.
