Clear Skies And A Little Warmer In Central Alabama At Midday

| January 25, 2018 @ 11:33 am

Another absolutely beautiful midday across Central Alabama, with clear skies and maximum sunshine for nearly everyone in the area. They are hard to see in this visible satellite image, but there are some very thin clouds moving across the central parts of the state only filtering out a minimum amount of sunlight at this time. Temperatures are running a few degrees warmer than at this time yesterday, ranging from the upper 40s in the northeastern parts of the area to the mid-50s in the south. Troy and Eufaula are tied at 55 degrees as the warm spots, while Gadsden and Pell City are tied as the cool spots at 48 degrees. Birmingham was sitting at 52 degrees.

WEATHER FOR THE REST OF YOUR THURSDAY
Other than a few high clouds that will continue to stream over the southern portions of the area from the west, we will maintain sunny skies throughout the remainder of the afternoon and into the early evening hours. Highs will range in the mid-50s in the north to the lower 60s in the south. For tonight, we’ll continue to have mainly clear skies throughout the area. Lows will range from the upper 20s in the north to the mid-30s in the south.

A FEW CLOUDS AND A LITTLE WARMER ON FRIDAY
We’ll have a few clouds to start off the day, but we’ll continue to have mostly clear skies throughout the daytime hours. Clouds will start to increase from the southwest just before sunset, and by midnight we’ll have cloudy skies. We may have a few showers move into the west and southwestern parts of the area just before sunrise, but most will stay dry until later Saturday morning. Highs will top out in the upper 50s to the mid-60s, and lows will be in the mid to upper 40s.

ON THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY
1963 – A great arctic outbreak reached the southern U.S. The cold wave broke many records for the duration of cold weather along the Gulf Coast. A reading of 15 degrees below zero at Nashville TN was an all-time record low for that location.
