A Quick Check On Our Weather At 1:30 PM

| January 31, 2018 @ 2:04 pm

As we have reached 1:45 PM in Central Alabama, the latest GOES-16 visible image shows virtually no clouds over the area at this point, allowing maximum sunshine to reach the surface. Temperatures are a lot nicer than 24 hours ago, with mid-50s to 60 degrees showing up on the reports. Birmingham was at 57 degrees, while Demopolis and Eufaula were both tied as the warm spots at 60 degrees.

We’ll continue to have mainly sunny skies throughout the remainder of the afternoon hours and into the start of the evening. Afternoon highs are pretty much topped out at this point in the mid-50s to the lower 60s. Clouds will be on the increase as we approach the midnight hour tonight, but clear skies can be enjoyed before that. Temperatures will be down in the mid-40s to the lower 50s by 6:00 PM, and throughout the 40s by 9:00 PM. Skies will become partly to mostly cloudy before sunrise, and lows will be in the upper 30s to the mid-40s.

Thursday will be a mainly cloudy day with a chance of showers throughout Central Alabama… with the better chances for those showers in the northern parts of the area. As a cold front moves closer during the day and makes its way through the area during the evening, shower chances will increase along and out ahead of the front. Most places will get around 1/4-inch of rainfall or less by midnight. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 50s to the lower 60s, with lows in the lower 30s to the mid-40s.
