Strong Storms Continue Pushing Eastward This Morning

| February 7, 2018 @ 6:45 am

Our line of strong storms continues pushing eastward across Central Alabama this morning.

It extends from southern Cleburne County along the Alabama/Georgia border south of Heflin to Sylacauga to Clanton to just east of Maplesville to along US-80 west of Selma.

The storms are pushing east at 50 mph.

They have a history of producing wind damage. There are multiple 911 reports of wind damage from around Jemison, where there was evidence of rotation as the line moved through.

@chiltonweather reported peak wind gusts of 50-51 mph as the line moved through.

A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. for parts of Perry and Dallas Counties.

Lots of lightning and heavy rain in addition to the gusty winds. A flood advisory is in effect for Jefferson and Shelby Counties. 1.69 inches of rain at the Birmingham Airport. I have 1.64 inches off Acton Road.

We’ll take the rain but can do without the severe weather.
