Noisy Storms Entering Northwest Alabama

| March 19, 2018 @ 5:48 am

A cluster of elevated thunderstorms with a good bit of lightning is entering Northwest Alabama at this hour.

We say they are “elevated” because their updrafts are not beginning near the surface but rather several thousand feet aloft, where warm air is moving into the region. The storms are not severe but they do have lightning and brief heavy rain. They could also produce small hail.

Elevated storms produce loud, rumbling thunder as well.

The storms extend from west of Corinth to Tupelo and Okolona then back to New Houlka and Bruce.

The strongest storm is near Smithville. This storm will affect western Marion County, including Hamilton.

They will cross into northern Lamar and Marion Counties shortly after 6 a.m.
