On This Day In Alabama History: Actor Wayne Rogers Was Born

Wayne Rogers, best known for his role as “Trapper” John McIntyre in the long-running television series “M.A.S.H.,” was born in Birmingham. He attended public schools in Birmingham, including Ramsay High School, but he began cutting classes and getting into trouble after his father died. His mother sent him to boarding school in Tennessee, where he learned to love literature. Rogers attended Princeton University and developed an interest in acting as a member of the Princeton Triangle Club, a theater club founded in 1891. In 1971, he was offered the role of “Trapper” John in “M.A.S.H.,” a series set in a field hospital during the Korean War. He left the show during a contract dispute in 1975 to pursue other roles.
