| April 7, 2018 @ 5:40 pm

Adding insult to the injury of the cold temperatures and windy conditions this afternoon, patches of light rain continue to move eastward across parts of the northern third of Alabama late this afternoon.

Temperatures are in the upper 30s over the northern third of the state, including 36F at Haleyville right now.

It is 43F at Birmingham and 45F at Tuscaloosa as well as 46F at Anniston.

Winds are out of the north, averaging 8-16 mph and gusting to 20 mph at times.

The radar looks like this at 5:40 p.m.:

Those patches of light to occasionally moderate rain will keep pushing eastward through the evening hours, so you may need your wipers at times. The rain should be out of the area before midnight.

Dress warmly and take a jacket if you are heading out for the evening. Temperatures will fall back into the 30s with wind chills in the upper 20s during the evening.

A freeze warning is in effect for the northern half of Alabama for tonight. Sensitive plants need to be protected overnight.
