Areal Flood Advisory Issued For Parts Of Shelby County Until 5:15 AM

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Shelby County until 515 AM CDT.

At 1118 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area. Up to three inches of rain have already fallen.

Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Hoover, Alabaster, Pelham, Helena, Leeds, Calera, Chelsea, Montevallo, Columbiana, Wilsonville, Indian Springs Village, Vincent, Harpersville, Westover, Wilton, American Village, Oak Mountain State Park, Vandiver, Maylene and University Of Montevallo.

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
