Newgarden Wins Rain-Delayed Indy Grand Prix Of Alabama
By Alabama NewsCenter Staff
Rain only delayed the inevitable as Josef Newgarden went from pole position to taking the checkered flag at the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.
Sunday’s rains suspended the race after 22 laps. The race resumed but ended shy of its scheduled 90 laps because the race hit the two-hour time limit over the two days of racing.
“More hectic than you would want at the end,” Newgarden told the Verizon IndyCar Series website. “It seemed like it was pretty straightforward all day. We weren’t having yellows, it was dry — then that rain made it very nerve-racking.” Newgarden’s No. 1 Hitachi Team Penske Chevrolet ended up with a nearly 10-second victory in the race.
