Even Though It’s Still May, Summertime Feels Like It Has Arrived At Midday

| May 9, 2018 @ 1:08 pm

It’s definitely a warm one out there across Central Alabama as we are making our way up to the 1 o’clock hour on this early Wednesday afternoon. We have mostly clear skies across the area with temperature running in the lower 80s in the north to the upper 80s in the south. Several locations in the area are tied at 88 degrees making them the warm spots, while Cullman and Haleyville are coming in at a cool 81 degrees. Birmingham was at 84.

For the remainder of the afternoon, we may have a few more clouds develop overhead making the skies partly cloudy, but there is a very small chance of a few isolated showers and possibly a thunderstorm in the extreme northwestern parts of the area. Odds for any one spot getting any rain in that part of the area will be around 1 in 5. Afternoon highs will top out in the upper 80s to the very low 90s from north to south. Those shower chances should diminish as we reach the late evening hours and we should be left with mostly clear skies throughout the late night and overnight hours. Lows will bottom out in the upper 50s to the mid-60s.

Thursday will be another very warm to hot day across Central Alabama. We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day with a very small risk of an isolated shower or storm moving through the northeastern corner of the area. Afternoon highs topping out in the mid-80s to the lower 90s. Any rain chances will dissipate quickly after sunset, leaving mostly clear skies for the late night and overnight hours. Lows will once again fall to the upper 50s to the mid-60s.
