A Standard Summertime Midday Across Central Alabama

| May 21, 2018 @ 12:54 pm

Radar Check At 12:50 PM

We have shower activity starting to pick up over the eastern half of Central Alabama at this time, with most of the heavier pop-up thunderstorms occurring over the southeastern parts of the area. Pretty quiet at this time across the western half, with the exception of a few showers down in the southwestern parts of the area. There are a few small showers over Jefferson and Shelby counties, but more rain is on the way. Movement with these are to the northwest, with the larger mass of showers making it into the Birmingham Metropolitan Area within the next 60-90 minutes. Temperatures are running from the lower 70s where there is rain-cooled air, to the lower 80s where there has been some sunshine. Birmingham was at 75 degrees.

Weather For The Rest Of Your Monday

The above animation shows that showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop during the afternoon hours then start to fade as we lose the heating of the day, but it also shows that a few storms could hold together for a while even after midnight. We’ll continue to have partly to mostly cloudy skies across the area with scattered showers and thunderstorms across the area. Afternoon highs will top out in the 80s across Central Alabama. Tonight’s lows will be in the mid to upper 60s.

Much Of The Same For Tuesday

As we continue to have this warm and very humid airmass over Central Alabama, our forecast won’t change much for tomorrow and throughout the remainder of the work week. We’ll have some sun at times but the day will end up with more clouds than sun. We can continue to expect scattered showers and storms to develop with the heating of the day and persist throughout the evening hours, with the main focus time for thunderstorms from 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Afternoon highs will top out in the lower to mid-80s. Some locations could touch the upper 80s if there are a few more breaks in the clouds.
