An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

RIGHT NOW: Much colder air has slipped into Northwest Alabama… Muscle Shoals is reporting 38 degrees at 2:00… while down this way temperatures are generally in the upper 50s (Birmingham is at 58 at 2:00). A little light rain continues to show up over the Tennessee Valley, but very little down here (as expected).

To the north, Little Rock is at 36 with light rain, but light snow is falling at Harrison, Arkansas, in the northern part of the state, with 32 degrees. Winter weather advisories remain in effect for parts of Arkansas and Tennessee, generally north of I-40, where some bridge icing is possible tonight.

TOMORROW AND OVER THE WEEKEND: Wet is the word. The 12Z NAM is printing 2.35″ here through Sunday, which sure sounds good to me. I think we can promise 2 inches of rain for most communities, with potential for up to 3 inches in a few spots. It is going to be a good rain with no significant chance of severe weather, and no major flooding issues since the rain will come down steadily with no extremely heavy downpours. Looks like the bulk of the rain will come tomorrow and Saturday. The rain will be steady at times, and it doesn’t look good for outdoor events that are planned.

The 12Z runs are trending drier for the northern half of the state Sunday; it looks like the rain will diminish Sunday morning, followed by drier air Sunday afternoon with some chance of partial clearing over the northern counties of the state.

NEXT WEEK: At this point it looks like most of next week will be dry and pleasant with seasonal temperatures; highs in the 70s, with lows in the 40s and 50s. The 12Z GFS does hint at a surface front moving into extreme North Alabama Thursday with some risk of a few showers, but moisture is very limited and we won’t mention it for now.

AT THE BEACH: Mostly cloudy weather for the Gulf Coast (Panama City west to Gulf Shores) tomorrow through Sunday with a chance of showers and storms each day. The showers should linger into Monday, but Tuesday through Friday of next week look dry and pleasant. Highs along the immediate coast will be held in the 65 to 69 degree range because of the cool ocean water (sea surface temps are in the mid 60s), but inland afternoon highs will be in the 70s next week.

VOODOO COUNTRY: Check out the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 12Z GFS going crazy with a cold core upper low around March 26….. but we all know that feature will probably disappear on the next run.
