Hopefully we won’t be adding the town of Ellinwood, Kansas to the roll of infamy tonight.

It is in Barton County, east of Great Bend.

The town lost power awhile ago when a transformer blew in the town.

Tornado sirens have been sounding for some time. Spotters and Emergency Managers were waiting looking into the inky darkness and lightning flashes when a large wedge tornado appeared 1 mile southwest of them. They are tracking it into the western edge of Ellinwood.

Here is a report from the NWS…extrap based on last srm would circulation nr the nw side of ellinwood attm.
5/5 21:18:05 6 Sw Ellinwood [Barton Co, KS] trained spotter reports TORNADO at 09:17 PM CDT — two tornados on the ground at the same time. large wedge tornado 6 miles southwest of ellinwood…another multi vortex tornado was spotted about half mile east of the wedge tornado.

Up until now, the town had dodged several bullets last night and this evening. We pray that their luck will hold.

Also, another dangerous storm is moving near Macksville and Belpre. Strong indications of a tornado on Doppler radar.

It is a dark and stormy night in Central Kansas.
