Storms Forming South of I-20 Including One Strong One Over Eastern Shelby County

Storms are forming this afternoon just south of the I-20 Corridor.

One passed near Shoal Creek in eastern Shelby County as it formed, where the U.S. Women’s open is being held. This storm will pass over Westover and will pass south of Harpersville and between Wilsonville and Childersburg. It is growing in size and intensity. Expect lightning, brief heavy rain and winds gusts to 30 mph.

A stronger, much larger storm, is to the northeast, east of Leeds and north of Sterrett in northeastern Shelby County. Lots of lightning in this one and it is developing the potential to be quite strong, with winds possibly reaching 40-50 mph. Heavy rain and some small hail will also fall It is moving southeast and will cross US-231 northeast of Vincent shortly as it passes into Talladega County. It will eventually move in the direction of Winterboro.

Other storms are forming over Sumter, Greene and Hale Counties in West Central Alabama. They will grow and push into Choctaw, Marengo and Perry Counties.

Over North Alabama, strong storms are moving into DeKalb and Cherokee Counties.
