Birmingham Continues To Have A Decent Rainfall Surplus After Sunday’s Storms

| June 11, 2018 @ 8:00 am

Birmingham had one of those late thunderstorms pop up and stay over the city for quite a while last night and ended up dumping 1.29 inches on the Magic City. That now puts the total for June up to 1.67 inches, 0.24 inches above normal. Our total for the year so far is now at 30.52 inches, which is 5.12 inches above normal. No threat of drought conditions returning to the city anytime soon as we’ll have increased risk for afternoon showers and storms this week.

Birmingham topped out at 90 degrees on Sunday after starting off the day at 69 degrees. Those numbers were no where near the record high of 97 degrees set back in 2011, or the record low of 50 degrees set back in 1988. Yesterday’s high was 3 degrees higher than the normal high of 87 degrees, while the early morning low was 2 degrees warmer than the normal low of 67 degrees. Birmingham is close to normal for the monthly average temperature of 75.7 degrees. As of this morning, Birmingham is averaging 78.2 degrees for June, 2.5 degrees warmer than normal.
