The summer solstice will occur next Thursday, June 21st at 5:07 a.m. CDT. It is the day with the most hours of of daylight during the year.

Interestingly, the earliet sunrise and latest sunset do not occur on that date. Our earliest sunrises here in Birmingha occur between the 8th and 16th or June, at 5:36 a.m.

Our sunsets will continue getting later until the period between June 26th and July 2nd, when sunset will occur at 8:02 p.m.

The days will start getting shorter on June 22nd, with two seconds less daylight than on the 21st.
