Flash Flood Watch continues until 11 am today (Thursday) for numerous counties in North Central Alabama southward into the southern part of the state. One to three additional inches of easily possible in that time frame. Flash flooding is likely.

At 1:25 am, rain was widespread over the north but Central and part of South Alabama getting a break.

To the West, a long line of strong to severe thunderstorms in Mississippi extended from north of Columbus to east of Jackson and to near Baton Rouge. Very heavy rain and lots of lightning.

Several Tornado Warnings have been issued and there is some scattered damage. So far, no known significant structural damage. In Yazoo City, trees were down across the railroad and a train ran into the trees.

A Tornado Watch continues until 3 am for South and Southeast Louisiana and for most of the south half of Mississippi. That watch extends east to the Alabama border.

In the Birmingham Metro area, we will probably be dealing with very heavy rain and flood issues during the morning drive time.

From 33/40 Skywatchers, these rain reports so far:

1.48 Bear Creek, NE Marion County in NW Alabama
1.87 Helena/Old Cahaba in Shelby County
1.91 Coker, west of Tuscaloosa

Parts of Alabama could come under a Tornado Watch later this morning but heavy rain may be the main issue. Still looks like our most dangerous severe weather event will come Friday afternoon and Friday night. Don’t be surprised if we are upgraded to a Moderate Risk for that time frame.

More rain amounts later this morning.

We will be here all night.

The coffee is flowing freely.
