Storms Are Building Across Central Alabama

| June 17, 2018 @ 2:08 pm

Storms are increasing in coverage and intensity across central Alabama this afternoon over parts of Shelby, Bibb, Chilton Coosa, Autauga and northern Elmore Counties.

They are showing little movement and will be capable of producing very heavy rainfall in addition to intense lightning.

Rainfall rates are running between one half and one inches per hour, with isolated rates approaching 1.5 inches per hour.

Significant weather advisories are in effect now for parts of Chilton and Autauga counties.

More isolated storms are popping up over North and North Central Alabama. A fairly strong storm is over DeKalb County in Northeast Alabama.

Be alert if you see clouds building in your area. If threatening clouds appear, go inside. You don’t get a thunder warning when that first lightning bolt from a storm happens. And when thunder does roar, go indoors!

Be alert for the possibility of flooding too if persistent storms remain over your area.
