Mostly Sunny & Hot At Midday; Chances Low For Any Cooling Showers

| June 19, 2018 @ 11:10 am

HOW’S OUR WEATHER AT 11:00 AM
If you love sunny and hot weather, then you will love the midday outdoors across Central Alabama as we make our way up to the noon hour. Skies are mostly clear across much of the area with a few clouds invading the western parts from the tropical disturbance that continues to drop copious amounts of rain on southeastern Texas and over in much of Louisiana and Mississippi. Radar is free from any rain at this point, and temperatures are already up in the mid-80s to the lower 90s. The hot spot is Montgomery at 92 degrees, while the cool spots are Cullman and Haleyville, both tied at 86 degrees. Birmingham was sitting at 88 degrees, which is already 2 degrees warmer than just 24-hours ago.

WEATHER FOR THE REST OF YOUR TUESDAY
Hot and steamy will be the best way to describe our weather throughout Central Alabama for the remainder of the afternoon and into the early evening hours. Skies will remain mostly clear and afternoon highs will be up in the lower to mid-90s. Heat index values will be up in the upper 90s to the lower 100s, so please take it easy if you have to be outside today, and be sure to stay hydrated. There is a very small chance of an isolated shower or storm, but most of the area will remain dry. For this evening and through the overnight hours, we’ll have mostly clear skies across the area with lows dipping down into the lower to mid-70s.

MUCH OF THE SAME ON WEDNESDAY
We will continue to be hot and humid across Central Alabama with mostly sunny skies throughout the day on Wednesday with only a slight uptick in the chance of scattered afternoon showers and storms. The chance of any one spot getting any rain will be around 20-30%, with the higher percentages located west of the I-59 and I-59/20 corridors. Afternoon highs will be up in the lower to mid-90s, with heat index values in the upper 90s to the low 100s. Any showers that remain at the beginning of the evening hours should dissipate before midnight, but a few isolated to scattered showers may remain possible over the northwestern portions of Central Alabama from the system bringing rain to parts of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Lows will be down in the lower to mid-70s.

As you can see from the above Tweet, there is a moderate risk for rip currents along the Gulf Coast especially with the nearby tropical system that is affecting portions of Texas and Louisiana. You can get the latest weather and rip current forecasts for the beaches from Gulf Port to Panama City on our Beach Forecast Center page.
