A Quick Weather Update At 8:50 PM: Strong Storms Continue In The Area

We still have plenty of untapped instability over parts of North and Central Alabama and the active storms are working their way into the more unstable air. Surface CAPE values are running in the 2500-3500 J?kg range mainly where the storms are currently occurring. Both of the big storms of concern are showing signs of broad rotation at the time.

The Severe Thunderstorm Warning has expired for the storm affecting Fayette County and has been replaced with a Significant Weather Advisory until 9:15 PM. Wind gusts up to 50 MPH and pea size hail can be expected as this storm is moving southeast at 15 MPH towards Berry, Bankston and Fayette County Public Lake. Torrential rainfall and frequent and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring as well. Seek shelter immediately if you are in the path of this storm.

The second storm of concern is located over Lauderdale and is showing signs of rotation as well, and a possible wall cloud is being reported with this storm. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is currently in effect until 9:00 PM. Wind gusts up to 60 MPH and quarter size hail can be expected, along with torrential rainfall and frequent cloud to ground lightning. Seek shelter immediately if you live in Florence, Killen, St. Florian, Underwood-Petersville, Green Hill and Zip City.

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 10:00 PM CDT for north-central and northwestern Alabama.

The same areas that are in the tornado watch continues to be defined in a Slight Risk of severe storms for the remainder of tonight. Damaging winds up to 60 MPH, quarter size hail, and an isolated tornado or two remain possible until around 10:00 PM tonight.
