A Quick Update On Our Weather At 6:10 PM

| July 6, 2018 @ 6:09 pm

A band of showers and thunderstorms continue to slowly sink southward across the northern half of Central Alabama at this time, with the heaviest storms lined up from just a few miles north of Geiger to Moundville to Brent. With the slow movement of the line along with the heavy amounts of rain falling, a few locations are under Flash Flood Warnings and Areal Flood Advisories at the moment.

Another cluster of stronger storms are moving southward through the cities of Alabaster, Columbiana, Wilsonville, and down to Goodwater. All of these storms are creeping along to the southwest at around 25 MPH. All of these storms contain dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, heavy rainfall, and brief wind gusts of 30-40 MPH.

There are no severe thunderstorm warnings currently in effect for anyone in Central Alabama.

Directly behind the front of the line, light to moderate rainfall continues to fall for such locations as Suligent, Fayette, Sumiton, Springville, Jacksonville, and Heflin. While rain has ended for much of the locations in North Alabama.

We will have to keep our eyes on the storms around Carrollton and LaGrange Georgia as they move southwest. These are heavy rainmakers as well, and could cause a brief issue with localized flooding.

As we continue to lose the heating of the day and the sunlight, these storms will start to diminish in strength and in coverage through the evening hours. By the time we reach midnight, most of the activity will have dissipated, but there may be a few showers that hang on through the first couple of hours into the overnight.
