A Few Light Showers Out There… It’s The Central Alabama Midday Nowcast

| October 17, 2018 @ 11:21 am

At this moment across Central Alabama, we have some very light rain or sprinkles falling mainly over the central parts of the area, while the rest of the area is currently under mostly cloudy skies. The only exception to that is the far southeastern corner of the area, where plenty of bright sunshine is warming the air more quickly. Temperatures are currently in the upper 50s to the mid-70s from northwest to southeast, as the only reporting station in the 80s is Eufaula at 82 degrees with a good bit of sun.

The above map is valid as of 7:00 PM CDT tonight and it shows that all rain activity across Central Alabama will have ended as a secondary front will help push that moisture out of the area and usher in cooler and dry air. For the rest of the afternoon hours, we’ll see those light showers and sprinkles diminish, and by the time we reach sunset, all rain activity will have ended. Those clouds will begin to slowly decrease and by the time we wake up on Thursday, skies will be mostly clear. Today’s highs will top out in the mid-60s to the lower 80s from northwest to southeast, with lows cooling off into the mid-40s to the upper 50s.

Thursday will feature a good bit of sunshine with a few clouds at times, but we’ll not see any precipitation from those clouds as dry air is being pushed in from the north by high pressure centered over Illinois. Highs will be in the mid-60s to the upper 70s.

We are so relieved to see this graphic from the National Hurricane Center… The Atlantic Basin is quiet and nothing is expected to form into a tropical Cyclone within the next 5 days. We can’t let our guard down yet, as hurricane season continues until the end of November.
